Everyday Adventures

9 years old and Sashimi…

July 14, 2017

Our daughter is turning 9 (time flies!). Today, she told me this birthday did not quite feel like the others…

For the first time she celebrated her birthday in winter, without family or friends around. Back in France, we used to have a giant picnic on the beach for her birthday and she LOVED it.

This time, we just had lunch in a very nice Japanese restaurant, her choice – yes our children love raw fish! –  and even if we were happy to be together and the food was delicious, it wasn’t as warm as back home… after 9 months of expatriation we still feel like strangers in another world.

We now know that we will not stay here forever but for the time being we are in this country and even if we don’t live the life that we expected to, I believe we are making the most of it with what we have.

We live in a big, busy city but we try to take our time and we are very grateful to still be able to homeschool our kids and enjoy seeing them growing up to be so smart, funny, kind and loving… and terrible sometimes but shhhhh…

And you know what? There is something that never change wherever you are: the sky is still blue and magnificent. And there is only one thing to do to realise that: look up.

    Happy Birthday !
Since we introduced our eldest to Sashimi he LOVES it too. And his sister can’t wait to be old enough to taste it.
    Lots of love !
